Ohio School Board Association Recognizes
The New Miami Local Schools Board of Education
The New Miami Local Schools Board of Education was honored during the March 8, 2022, Ohio School Board Association Southwest Region Spring Conference. The annual event is where excellent individuals from school districts in the region are recognized and the accomplishments of school boards and school board members are celebrated.
The New Miami Local Schools Board of Education was presented the Gold Award for being recognized as an Effective School Board for the 2021 school year. The OSBA Southwest Region Executive Committee developed this award to recognize school boards who are doing outstanding work in the region.
On behalf of the students, stakeholders, and public education your hard work and dedication are much appreciated.
Mr. Roy Chapman and Mr. Randy Cook were recognized by the Ohio School Board Association for exemplary service as Board Members.
The New Miami Board of Education reviewed candidates and appointed Ms. Keeley Davidson to fill the vacant seat position. Pictured below is Ms. Davidson being sworn in to her position by Treasurer, Robin Bonar, at the January 27, 2022 meeting.

The annual Board of Education Organizational Meeting took place on Thursday, January 6, 2022. Two were installed as newly elected members - Tari Jo Slagle and Randy Cook. Members were then installed as officers: Randy Cook, President, and Roy Chapman, Vice-President. Pictured below are the members taking their oath of office.

The following resolution was passed at the November 18, 2021 school board meeting:
RESOLUTION TO EXPRESS THE OPPOSITION OF THE BOARD TO VACCINE MANDATES
WHEREAS, since March 2020 the Board of Education of the New Miami Local School District (“Board”) has worked with the community, staff, and students to address the risks of COVID-19 through periods of closure and remote learning, quarantines, contact tracing, social distancing, masking and facilitating access to vaccinations for those who choose to be vaccinated; and
WHEREAS, through these actions, and the many private and personal decisions of those in the school and community, the impact of COVID-19 on the lives and education of New Miami students have been significantly reduced; and
WHEREAS, the Board continues to share timely and accurate information with the community, staff, and students regarding the risks of COVID-19 and steps that can be taken to mitigate those risks including masking and vaccination; and
WHEREAS, the response to COVID-19 has evolved with the scientific understanding and medical advancements in addressing the risks. At this time individuals ages 5 and older have access to vaccination; and
WHEREAS, the Board believes that the decision whether to receive the vaccination against COVID-19 in the current circumstances should be a personal decision.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board expresses its opposition to a COVID-19 vaccine mandate for its employees and students in the current circumstances. Other mitigation measures, such as those set forth in Board Policies 8450 and 8450.01, have proven to be effective to control the spread of the existing variants of COVID-19 within the school setting at this time.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Board continues to recognize that COVID-19 is a serious virus that can have devastating impacts on vulnerable individuals. Because of this, the Board will continue to monitor COVID-19 and any future variants that may arise. In accordance with Board Policies 8450 and 8450.01 as well as federal, state, and local requirements, the Board will continue to take reasonable steps to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 within the school setting. The Board’s mitigation plan will be responsive to evolving medical and scientific guidance. Community, staff, and students are encouraged to seek the advice of their medical providers on questions of vaccination and other medical decisions regarding COVID-19.
It is found and determined that all formal actions of this Board concerning or related to the adoption of this Resolution were adopted in an open meeting of this Board, and all deliberations of this Board and any of its committees that resulted in such formal actions were adopted in meetings open to the public, in compliance with all applicable requirements of the Ohio Revised Code.

BUSINESS ADVISORY COUNCIL
The New Miami Local School District is a part of the Butler County Educational Service Center / Butler Tech Business Advisory Council. This Council is led by the leadership of Butler Tech and its Workforce Development Department.
The Business Advisory Council operates with the vision: To prepare today’s students for tomorrow’s jobs.
The Council meets quarterly with the mission: To create learning experiences that will transform students’ lives, businesses, and the community.
The members of the Business Advisory Council include educators, business and industry leaders, trade and professional organizations, elected officials as well as members of the area Chamber of Commerce(s).
Gold Level Recognition
The southwest region Ohio School Boards Association is proud to recognize the New Miami Local Board of Education for having achieved the "Gold Level" for Effective School Boards. To reach this level takes the positive cooperation of the board, superintendent, treasurer, and administration.
