District Learning Plan 2020

Important Announcement

August 18th, 2020

Dear New Miami Families:

As a district, New Miami is preparing to continue educating our students during this unprecedented time due to the Coronavirus-19 pandemic. Since March, I have worked with the Butler County Health Department, Ohio Department of Health, and participated in numerous safety meetings to determine how best to keep students and staff safe. Two data points were vital in my decision making: the current rate of community spread in our area and the number of high-risk students and staff in our buildings. Each district is different; these data points are unique to each community and school building. For New Miami, 25% of our students and staff are considered high risk, and the rate of community spread in our area is over 17%. These two pieces of data have weighed on me heavily, over these last few weeks. This decision has been hard, as a member of your community and as Superintendent.

On August 13th, the New Miami Board of Education held a special board meeting to vote on the District re-opening plan. With my recommendation, the board voted to go virtual for the first semester, which ends on January 27th. The district will meet on November 4th, at the end of the first quarter, to re-evaluate our re-opening plan. At that time, if the data supports a change in our learning model, we will make changes accordingly. To ensure a positive experience for our students, I believe it is essential that students and teachers have the opportunity to build relationships, distribute materials and technology, and teach students how to use their materials and technology effectively. With that, we will begin the year with a blended model to provide a solid foundation for student success.
